World Economic Forum on the Middle
East - Dead Sea, Jordan, 15-17 May
2009
Implications of the Global Economic
Crisis for the Middle East: Home-grown
Strategies for Success
Sustainability in the Middle East –
WEF session: Promoting sustainable
development in business is a socially
responsible practice and is also
competitive and profit-making. The global financial
crisis has compelled the world to
reassess its core values, making
socially and environmentally responsible
businesses a necessity. The concept of
“responsible competitiveness” was
discussed and defined as the coming
together of businesses, government and
NGOs to create an environment that
promotes sustainability through
policies, social projects and
accountability.
At that WEF session; the Arab
Responsible Competitiveness Initiative
together with the first “Responsible
Competitiveness in the Arab World”
report were launched under the patronage
of Her Majesty Queen Rania Of Jordan.
The “Arab Responsible Competitiveness
Report” includes a ranking of Arab
nations against global responsible
competitiveness, a regional assessment
and examples of best practices.
